The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
