The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent honors show nears, you'll find an outcry to include additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
