From the time last year that it was formally declared that Amazon would be producing a streaming series adapted from BioWare's ME saga, fans speculated if it had the guts to tell an unique story and not making it about Commander Shepard, the player-crafted hero from the original games. In a website announcement Friday, they obtained their answer.
BioWare lead producer Mike Gamble confirmed the show would "investigate a brand-new story within the universe’s chronology, and will be set after the first trilogy." The message adds, "This will not be a repetition of Commander Shepard’s story – since in the end … that’s YOUR story, correct?"
Seemingly, this indicates the show may be about the peoples of the Milky Way restoring the cosmos in the after-effects of destruction caused by the reapers. It might also be set hundreds of years in the years ahead, like Mass Effect: Andromeda. "Post the first trilogy" leaves plenty for the creativity. No performers have been announced yet, but Star Trek Beyond scribe Doug Jung was chosen to act as showrunner and executive producer in June. Daniel Casey is also a writer and executive producer on the series.
Regarding the upcoming Mass Effect release, Gamble's announcement does not reveal a lot of information. In answer to the speculation and rumors that BioWare may be sold off as due to EA's $55 billion deal to private investors, featuring Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Gamble emphasizes "the next Mass Effect project is in creation, and EA and BioWare continue to be committed to presenting further stories in this universe."
BioWare is "heads-down and working only on Mass Effect," teasing that the group has "plenty of universe to cover, numerous elements to create, and lots of romances to determine" for the forthcoming release. "We look forward by what we’re creating, and we guarantee you: once we’re prepared, it’ll be a lot of fun to display."
Multiple letters are emphasized across the announcement, and put together they read "URL Krogan N7." The meaning is unclear what this is indicating, though it's undoubtedly indicating something — the announcement finishes with a teasing P.S. noting, "Warning: there is zero secret project details to be discovered by any part of I am stating today, I promise."
The Krogan species are shown in complimentary illustrations EA shared for fans to access in honor of N7 Day. Named "Civil War," the picture shows multiple Krogan in conflict. Along with the "URL Krogan N7" message, it's possible one more small breadcrumb on the journey to the upcoming Mass Effect.
November 7 signifies N7 Day every year, a occasion for BioWare and Mass Effect fans to honor the galactic adventure. Usually the time that BioWare has teased the upcoming latest title, such as when in 2023 it displayed an N7 agent in a stylist coat.
